Socialism

Can socialism really work in a country that has so many layers of security and law enforcement?  Would our legal and judicial system in itself really allow for such a society to exist?

In Russia, they live under a socialist government with free health care, controlled banks, autos, etc.  They also pay under the table for many services and can buy their way out of speeding tickets and other minor law violations.  If you need to have surgery, it is free, and if you are poor you may get pushed way back on the list and eventually die because you need a major surgery.  Russians who have some money and can afford to pay the surgeon/doctor some money under the table, will typically have their procedures done quickly.  Speeding ticket, pay the cop $5.00 and your off scott free.  Opening up a new business?  Well, unless you pay the cable guy, water guy, gas guy, and electric guy under the table, it could be months before your new business is ready to operate.

Russians live under this practice, with the full acknowledgment of the government and surrounding officials.  They are not paid huge salaries, however they are “taken care of”, on the side, by the people in their country.  What would happen if Americans paid doctors under the table for procedures?  Paid off a cop for a ticket?  Provided extra cash to the utility company to speed up business set ups?

It’s just another reason why a country controlled by big government will not work in America.  We look at other countries and say, “man it would be nice to have free this, or free that”.  Yet, when you dig deep into how the countries are actually run, and what goes on behind the scenes, it doesn’t become such an easy choice.

This is all my opinion, and you may argue that I am making these crazy thoughts up.  Go talk to someone in that has lived in a socialist country, like I did, and you will find out the truth of how the government is actually run.
