The Bitch with Oil

Everyday, literally, every single fricken day I Bitch about oil and gas prices.  There are so many other things to worry about, yet this issue just always seems to piss me off.  I can remember buying gas when I first got my license for just around $1.10, and occasionally I could get it as cheap as $.99.  Why is it so high?  Does it really cost that much to refine?  What are the alternatives?  What can we do about it? 

 Those are all very good questions and I hope to be able to answer some of them today.  I am going to title, from here on out, my Monday posts to The Bitch with…… This will give me a chance to complain about something besides it being Monday. 

 Why is gas so high?  Well the honest answer would be that we, the consumers, allow it be that high.  Not to mention that DD Pamela Anderson, and the rest of PETA, won’t let us drill in oil rich areas like Alaska.  There is nothing but frozen tundra and oil in Alaska!  Oh yeah, and that one tiny mammal that none of you have heard of that supposedly, Pam and the gang want to protect.  For the last 10 years gas prices have steadily increased, and we as consumers have steadily dealt with it.  I almost slammed my fist through the TV a couple of days ago during the hearings over big oil.  One of the TYCOONS, I mean executives, was asked about what Americans should do about high gas prices.  This fricken moron said we should stop driving.  That was it.  Stop driving and gas prices will go down!  ARE YOU FRICKEN KIDDING ME? 

 Does oil cost a lot to refine?  The answer is NO!  This is probably one of the main reason I get so mad about this subject.  I believe new data shows that it costs oil companies $.60 to refine a gallon of gas.  This is a start to finish price.  So right now we are paying 6 times what it cost the oil companies to produce a finished product.  6 TIMES!!  When I think of OIL TYCOONS I think of the old Duck Tales cartoon with Donald Duck swimming in his big gold vault.  That is what these people probably do every day!  Makes me want to blow up their vault and have Jeff lower me to the bottom. 

 What are the alternatives, and what can we do about it?  Well you can buy a hybrid vehicle, which is not a bad idea.  You can do as the oil idiot says and stop driving. Yeah right. You can try to  car pool, ride a bike to work, purchase a moped, or train for a super marathon.  Some people have suggested a ban on gas for a day.  That won’t work.  Others have said maybe more R&D needs to be explored with Ethanol.  Which in my opinion will not work, because that will raise the price of corn.  If you don’t know how much the price of corn reflects the price of everything you buy in the grocery store, you better do some more R&D.   

 My solution?  Well I’m glad you finally read through this bitch to get the answer.  My solution is actually fairly simple, and will allow you to still drive.  The answer is this.  Stop buying from Exxon.  Exxon is the biggest reason that oil and gas prices are so high.  The bonus money that each executive makes every year from Exxon would feed a small country for 5 years.  If everyone in the country went across the street to “The other store” and bought their gas, Exxon would be forced to lower their prices.  Then “The other store” would have to lower theirs to compete.  It would take some time but eventually prices would correct themselves and things would be reasonable again.  Exxon exec’s are making money hand over fist!  Seriously download some old Duck Tales cartoons and imagine Donald as one of these guys!  It will make you want to Bitch!!
