Oil……….Americas Dictator
2 years ago when Hurricane Katrina hit I remember running to the gas station to fill up before prices soared. Well I was too late, I rushed to BP station only to find that gas had already increased to $2.75 a gallon. 2 days ago I filled up at the same BP station, which was actually one of the cheapest in town, at $3.85 a gallon. WOW!! This made me mad, as usual, but also got me to thinking. America is a great country, we have freedoms and rights that are coveted by many other nations, yet we are dependent on the commodities of other nations. Nations that are ruled harshly by cruel leaders and dictators. Recently there was a site that released the top 20 dictators in the world. http://www.parade.com/articles/editions/2007/edition_02-11-2007/Dictators
Number 1 on their list is, as you have hopefully already seen, is Omar al-Bashir from Sudan, and number 20 being Putnin from Russia. My thinking is that THE OIL COMPANIES should be listed as number 1. You may not realize this but the price per barrel of oil DICTATES what we do with our daily lives. Lets take a look at an average day for me and I will show you how.
1. Oil dictates how much I spend to fill up my tank, every week. Pretty self explanatory.
2. Oil dictates how much I will spend on home improvements for my house. OIL and GAS is used to cut down trees, which will eventually turn into the fence I will put around my house. OIL is used in the production of PVC piping and other plastic parts that I, or any of you, use on a daily basis.
3. Oil dictates the cost of mowing my lawn, both business and personal. As gas increases so does the cost of lawn maintenance.
4. Oil dictates the price that I pay for groceries and food. Mr. Truck Driver has to drive the food, in his big semi, to grocery stores across the country on a daily basis.
5. Oil dictates the cost of the dress that my wife wants to buy. Again, someone has to deliver that dress to the department store! 6 year old children are not living in the basement of the department stores, making our clothing! 6 year old children in Mexico are living in a basement and making our clothing. Mexico to Virginia is a long haul.
6. Oil dictates how much I will pay for my plane ticket to visit my family in Utah. I can’t even imagine how much jet fuel is, but when I look at the price of my ticket I can get a pretty good idea.
7. Oil dictates the cost of the morning newspaper that I read. Again, papers don’t magically show up on my doorstep.
I think that you all get the point. Oil honestly does dictate our lives. Next time you get ready to go on vacation, make sure you ask Mr. Oil Dictator, if its ok. He will say YES, but………it will cost you!
Don’t like it? I don’t care! It’s the TRUTH!
