At least that’s the way I feel as of this moment.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a Groupon for an Italian restaurant called Randazzos. It was $20 and you got $40 worth of food with a table of 4 people. We get to the restaurant, which is in a run down area next to a bar, a laundry mat and right off of I-10. Determined not to judge a book by its cover we walk in to the place that has one other customer and a guy in his mid 40’s rocking a curly mullet in a pony tail. Mr. Mullet man comes to our table and I show him my Groupon. He tells me “well the idea of this Groupon is to have a table of 4 adults come in with the thought that they will spend $60-70”. “Well it doesn’t say that, it just says 4 people and there are 4 of us”. He starts to ramble on about how his owner will be pissed and yada yada yada, but eventually concedes to us using the deal, as long as its used entirely.

We order drinks and a appetizer. Drinks came out after our app, because the guy forgot and said he was slammed this afternoon. If your paying attention, we are the only people in the restaurant with the exception of one other person.
Finally we order our meal. Sage gets broccoli and sweet potato fries, Amber gets the grilled tuna with angel hair and I get the seafood platter. About 10 minutes go by and three silver headed Bettie’s walk in the door to eat. Mullet man takes their drink order and then the phone rings. He places the customer on hold because as he told them “Can you hold please, we are slammed right now”. Literally another 7 minutes go by before he picks the phone back up.

Our food arrives…. If you can really call it that. Amber is brought a plate of angel hair with a slab of dry rotted rubbery tuna. I get a seafood platter that looks like they took about 12 frozen items, coated them in batter and threw em into the deep fryer. Sage has the only edible food of our family. Amber took a bite of the tuna and almost threw up, I bit into a fried oyster and thought a pimple had exploded in my mouth, and everything was so gross and OVERLY cooked. Then our salads came, which were supposed to come first. Amber and I ate the 5 day old bagged salad and I asked the guy for a couple boxes.

As I approach the counter to pay for my very awful meal I see mullet man behind the counter making a butter and cheese sandwich. He is sweating and scarfing down this disgusting creation. He apologizes for the delay in salads being delivered and tells me the total is $48, with us only owing 8 because of the Groupon. I tip the poor guy 5 bucks and leave the place with a stomach ache and pissed that I spent $30 on food that was worth .30.

When dining you go for the experience. My wife can cook amazing and we rarely eat out, but when we do it’s nice to have good food and service. We got neither and I’m hoping that I don’t get scabies or some other weird disease.

Friends don’t let friends eat at Randazzos…

In November my vote goes to......

The Mayans. If what they said actually happens, it will be the first truth to come out of politics. If not, well then mark it up as something else to keep people riled up and talking about things that don’t matter and dodging the real issue. Classic that their prophecy happens during an election year isn’t it!

Here’s to a bloody, bitchy, and bothersome election…..

1. The worship of all things Instant…….

2. Instant insanity

Those of you who are my age and older (that would be the NEW 30) you may actually remember a time when you had to wait for things. I remember going to school and seeing a group of people congregated in the rotunda all talking about what had happened the weekend before. Sure, we had telephones and we could call each other, but lets be real. Unless you were part of the 1%, (some pun intended) that had there own “phone” line, your parents monitored the phone like Principal Belding use to monitor Zack Morris. No calls after 10pm or else you would be “grounded”……is that word still relevant? Some of us were lucky enough to have the phone that lit up when it was ringing, and those same people were clever enough to turn the ringer off and wait for the glow.

Instant has become the new norm. We see Verizon commercials about how fast their technology is and that everyone is 29 seconds behind what they should already know. Newspapers are no longer relevant, magazines are full of info we have already read, and how do companies make money with commercials on TV? We all DVR our shows and fast forward through the boring parts. We have alerts on our phone for major news, sports scores, new email, and the reminder to pick up the kids. Instantanity….

My wife and I were talking about how much fun it was as kids to watch TGIF as a family. You sat down and watched Steve Urkel, those once cute Olsen twins, and the cousin with the surfer accent that all young guys envied. It was a good time and if you missed a week, you had to wait for the re-run episodes a few weeks later. Now if you miss something you go grab it on demand and have “viewing” parties with your friends, while engaging in 20 different text message conversations at the same time.

It’s Instantanity at it’s finest and the crazy thing is that it will only get…….better. Meaning, more instant and more out of control than you realize.

There will be no up front payment, however said artist will be given a percentage of book sales and or royalties. There currently are two finished stories in the series with more to come.

Through social media, Amazon, and kids readings at select Barnes and Nobles, I believe this series will be very successful. There are also plans to distribute 100+ copies to teachers throughout the country. With proper placement and encouragement from educators this series will be very big in very short amount of time.

“The Adventures of Tum Tum” is about a boy named Tum Tum who has a wild imagination and takes daily adventures on his own and with his friend Burdy. Treasure hunting in imaginary caves, racing monkeys and stealing dragon eggs are just the beginning for Tum Tum……..

Audubon Zoo

Audubon Zoo

Getting it back together

It’s been a wild and crazy past year. A year ago I started my own company, left my good paying job and ventured off into the land of the unknown. From the eyes of many it was a dumb move, from others it was entrepreneurial and free spirited. Both of those opinions hold water as it didn’t end up the way I wanted, yet taught me so many things.

Imperial Fighting was an amazing experience and gave me some valuable insight into promotions, sales, people and production work. It showed me that if I want to do something (just like my parents always said) that I just have to make the effort and do it. Lots of effort was made but ultimately I was severely underfunded and didn’t have the means to weather the storm. You have to spend money to make money and I didn’t have a lot to spend! Looking back I wouldn’t have changed many things about the company with the exception of making sure I only work with people I can trust with my life. Bad hires can destroy a company and I know that I made a couple of those, along with “growing pain” type decisions that happen with any business.

This led to 6 months of unemployment and a downward spiral with finances and overall security for me and my family. It was a very scary time. I’ve never in my life been in that situation and everyday it seemed to get worse. Job rejection after rejection, constant internal battles on why I put my family in this situation and when it would end. To keep up with everyday living expenses we dug ourselves deeper in a hole and with as much faith as I had, I wonder when the bleeding would stop.

Every job that I applied for I secretly didn’t want. I didn’t want to get caught up in something that I knew I was going to hate 6 months down the road. If Imperial Fighting taught me anything it was that I loved the production world and wanted to work somehow in that field. My experience with sales, people, production and awesomeness, (I’ve been down but lets face it, I’m still awesome) had to be desired by someone in that type of field. I didn’t want a “sales” job, where someone was pressing a thumb against me, watching over my back and essentially not helping me to accomplish anything. Thank God I was able to hold out long enough to find my current position with Event Producers.

Event Producers was exactly what I needed and the RIGHT fit for me as a person. Let me find business, get involved with clients, help people make decisions, and stay involved with the production and event field. In fact, I am currently working on producing a BIG MMA show that will call New Orleans its home in a couple months. No, it’s not the rise of Imperial Fighting or some other crazy venture for me. However, Event Producers and myself will be producing the whole show from start to finish. In a sense I will get to do most of the same things I did with Imperial, without the financial risk and heartache that I already went through. In fact it will be rewarding to my new company and set the tone for my new position.

As Imperial Fighting died, now I rise as a person. It’s been a long fricken struggle and I’m starting to recoup. I’ve finally gotten caught up on some things that were really making me stress out (4 months behind my mortgage in VA, Credit Card debt, creditors, etc) It’s still a bit frustrating at times. I had plans to buy another car with my tax return, but instead it went to getting my mortgage current, paying off a credit card and the last of the debt from Imperial Fighting. At times Bankruptcy seemed like a good idea, but I have refused to take the easy way out. I’ve got a knack for doing things the hard way, in both good and bad.

So now I start over. I’ve got an amazing career and opportunity here in New Orleans and I’m ready to blow the roof off of Event Producers. My family is finally home with me and we are loving our new life together. Everyday is a new adventure and every evening is full of family time and a new found love for each other. I’m still in some debt, but at this time it seems more manageable than 6 months ago and I should be able to make a dent in that this year.

I’m so thankful for fiends and family along the way, especially my loving wife who wanted to kill me at times. As I continue to get it back together I do have one word of warning. I’m still a gambling, rambling, and at times obnoxious maniac, but from here on out it will be more educated and precise. So, look out New Orleans and look out everyone cause in case you didn’t know THE TIM is back……and he is getting it back together!!

Today should be fun
